They Played for Their Lives: Film Screening and Special Guest

On Saturday January 26, 2019 at 3 pm Southmont High School will be hosting a screening of the one-hour documentary, They Played For Their Lives. The film was made by Dr. Nurit Jugend. Dr. Jugend is a composer, music lecturer, and private tutor currently residing in California. She gives music appreciation classes, seminars, and teaches regularly at the Continuing Education Program at Stanford University.

Safety at Southmont Schools

The tragedy in Florida reminds us all of the importance of safety and security in schools. We want to assure our families that each of our schools has an updated school safety plan that has been created and reviewed in collaboration with local law enforcement. The members of our staff have been trained on the specifics of this plan, and we conduct periodic drills to ensure that everyone knows their role during a crisis. Our School Resource Officer (SRO), Jennifer Griffith, leads this training.

Student Illness on the Rise in Montgomery County

Southmont Schools are not immune from what is an increasing percentage of students falling ill this season.  In particular, we are seeing an increase in the number of gastroenteritis cases.  While sometimes called the stomach flu, gastroenteritis (or GI) isn't the same as influenza.  Real flu (influenza) affects only your respiratory system (nose, throat and lungs).  GI, on the other hand, attacks your intestines, causing signs and symptoms such as:

Cyber Safety Presentations for Southmont Schools

In collaboration with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Southmont Schools will provide Cyber Safety presentations for all students 3-12 and for our parents and the community on Thursday, November 16th.  The Indiana ICAC Youth Educators program provides age appropriate Cyber Safety presentations to help reach our youth before they become victims, to provide help to those who have already been victimized and mitigate the potential for acts of school violence committed due to online victimization.  Presentation points for students include:

Immunization Clinic Announced

The Ladoga Christian Church, in coordination with Franciscan Health Immunization Services, will be providing an Immunization Clinic on Saturday, July 22 from 9:00-12:00 at the Ladoga Christian Church (124 W. Elm Street in Ladoga). This event is for both children and adults. Hoosier HealthWise/Medicaid, private insurance (billed) and uninsured ($10 per vaccine) are all welcome. School required vaccines will be offered, along with Tdap, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis A series for adults. No appointment is necessary.

Walnut ES Phone Line Issue

We are aware of recurring issues with Walnut Elementary School receiving and making external phone calls. ATT has discovered that it is an issue with their line and is scheduled to make repairs on Wednesday, November 2nd between 8:00 and 2:00. If you are unable to contact the building, please call our central office at 866-0203 and we will transfer you to the building.
