Summer Food Service Program for Children

The Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSP) is available for eligible children throughout the summer.  While Southmont Schools do not offer the program, many locations throughout the state do.  For more information, and a map of participating locations, visit  A listing of sites in Montgomery County can be found here.

Southmont Schools have an essential role in the lives of students by providing them with a foundation for healthy living and learning.  Our goal is to provide the students' favorite items combined with non-processed, healthier, fresh selections.  We feel it is important to offer these items to introduce students to different types of foods.  We are committed to each and every student, each and every day.

The Southmont Schools' Food Services Department makes affordable, healthy, and nutritious breakfasts and lunches daily for our students.  We continue to meet tough new federal nutrition standards for school meals, ensuring that meals are healthy and well-balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed in school.  Many of us think our children will only eat "kid" foods like chicken nuggets, hotdogs and pizza but we see something different happening in our district - students eating new and healthier menu items.  We would like for you to encourage your child to try a variety of the different choices offered throughout the school year.  Daily menus may be found here

Free and Reduced Meal Applications

If you believe you may qualify for meal and book rental assistance, please contact our Food Services Director, Mr. Adam Van Matre, at 765-866-0350 x254 or  Both paper and online applications are available by clicking here, or may be obtained by contacting your child's school.  Only one application is required per family (regardless of the number of children).  Paper applications should be returned to South Montgomery Community Schools, C/O Adam Van Matre, PO Box 8, New Market, IN, 47965.  If you need assistance completing the application, please contact the Director.

If you are receiving food stamps or TANF, you may receive a letter stating that your child has been automatically approved for free meals.  If you receive this letter, you do not need to complete an application.

If you were approved for free or reduced meal assistance last year, your benefits will expire on September 19th of the current year.  Please be sure you submit a new application prior to the expiration date to allow ample time for processing.  If there is a lapse in benefits, you would be responsible for paying the amount owed for breakfast and lunch meals that has accrued.

If you receive notification from a state agency informing you that your child(ren) already qualify for meal assistance, you do not need to complete an application.  However, you should read the letter carefully and follow the instructions. If any children in your household were missing from your eligibility notification, please contact our Food Services Director.

Meal Payments

You may send cash or check to your child's school and the money will be deposited into his/her account.  The money is then used as a debit system to purchase meals using your child's district student ID number.  If you choose to send a check, please be sure to include your child's name and "lunch payment" in the memo section to ensure it is deposited in the correct account.

You may also make online payments to your child's account anytime using your Visa or Mastercard (debit or credit) using the MySchoolBucks program.  Online payments are automatically credited to your child's meal account.  However, there is a $2.49 processing fee charged by the service for its use.  For more information, please click here, or the banner below.

Special Dietary Needs

If your child has a special dietary need, please notify the school nurse and cafeteria manager.  If your child suffers

from a food allergy, the school must be notified of that upon enrollment.  Alternative menu options are available for students who require them.



Nutrislice is the online menu for students and parents.  You may access our menus by clicking on the orange  "School Menus" tab to the right or the link below, or under Students and Families > Cafeteria Info > Menus from the main menu above.  You can also get your school's menu on the go by downloading the Nutrislice App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) (Search for "South Montgomery" once you have downloaded the app).
